Chocolate Chip Cake with Salted Caramel Buttercream

Ohhh baking! I certainly am no cake boss, but I LOVE to bake. I thought it would be fun to whip up a little something before I had a few friends come over for dinner & this was my result.

I took a recipe I found on Pinterest & simplified it. Even though I decided to take the rookie route, it turned out to be super easy & tasted great (even though it certainly is not the most pleasing cake to look at)!

Down below is my (very) basic & simple step by step.

I started by just making two 8 inch golden butter cakes from a box mix.                                      Adding chocolate chips into the batter would also taste great.

Once those were cooled slightly, using a toothpick, I poked holes in both cakes. Then, I drizzled salted caramel ice-cream topping over the cakes.                                                                                  If you have the time, make your own caramel!

I let the caramel soak in for a little bit & then applied a thick layer of chocolate buttercream & chocolate chips to the top of one of the cakes.

I then stack the other layer on top.

Using a normal spatula, I spread salted caramel buttercream all over the top and sides of the whole cake.

I allowed that some time to set before drizzling melted milk chocolate over the entire cake.

To add a little something, I sprinkled mini chocolate chips and a hint of sea salt on top.
